BR Standard 5, No.73082 "Camelot"

"73082" is a survivor of Barry Scrap yard, and the only remaining one of the named Standard 5s. It was returned to working order by the Camelot Society. Like many Barry locos, it had lost its tender and a new one was constructed. Camelot has been a member of the Bluebell's loco fleet since it returned to traffic in 1995.

"Camelot" was one of the Southern Region's allocation of Standard 5s, and when the King Arthur class, which they replaced, were being withdrawn. This led to the names being transferred to the new engines. A modern engine, highly capable and easy to maintain, BR's rush to withdrawn from steam in the 1960's meant the engines were withdrawn long before they needed to be. Built at Derby in 1955 and ran on the Southern Region of British Railways until 1966.
