Bluebell Railway

Giants of Steam Weekend - 2006

The annual 'Giants of Steam' weekend was greatly anticipated with the prospect of  visiting No. 3440, 'City of Truro' being paired with the Bluebell Railway's own  No.9017, 'Earl of Berkeley'. This being the first time the pair had worked together on passenger services.  City of Truro' is believed to have been the first locomotive to have achieved 100mph. Also visiting the Bluebell  was Eddystone, (not running), which is going to be with the railway for a few months having undergone work in the Bluebell Workshop preceding the event.

The Gala also saw special carriages on show, Great Northern Railways Directors Saloon No. 43909, London and North Western Railway Semi Royal Saloon, No.1903, London North Western Railway Observation Car and Pullman Car Lilian.

Also good to see was a display from the Mechanical Horse Club at Sheffield Park station. There was a vintage bus service operating from East Grinstead station to Kingscote and Brighton to Sheffield Park.

Sadly the weather played its part by giving us very heavy showers on Saturday and heavy continuous rain on Sunday. I apologise for the quality and lack of variation in the photographs  but the rain was too much this time to venture far from the position of sanctuary at Horsted Keynes station. It did allow me time to chat to others over the weekend but too many to people mention here and as always a thank you to those who took the time to organise another good event.
