Leander No.5690, Autumn 2004

Leander was built in Crewe for running express passenger trains between London and Scotland. The class was introduced in 1934 by locomotive designer William Stanier as a development of the Patriot Class .  A total of 191 locomotives were built and named in honour of King George V's Silver Jubilee. The Jubilees were given the classification of 5XP (BR 6P) and could be found working hard until the end of the steam era.

During Leander's month long stay at the Bluebell Railway the weather refused to be sunny for many of the occasions I managed to visit. Heavy rain during the Giants of Steam  weekend and her last weekend, along with the shorter autumn days limited the good photographic opportunities normally found around the railway.
