Mid Hants Railway - Watercress line

The railway runs 10 miles from Alresford to Alton,  visiting along the way, Ropley and Medstead & Four Marks. The Alton, Alresford and Winchester Railway Company, which later became the original Mid-Hants Railway, opened the line in 1865. There were three intermediary stations, at Ropley, Alresford and Itchen Abbas. The fourth station, Medstead and Four Marks, was constructed later date. Services were operated by the LSWR, who ultimately absorbed the line in 1884. In 1923 it became part of the Southern Railway, which then in turn became the Southern Region of British Railways after  nationalisation, in 1948.
