Having spent most of its working life at
Southampton Docks, after disposal by BR it was used, for a further spell at
Southampton, shunting on a private wharf. This powerful but compact shunting
engine, was purchased by the Bulleid Society who later moved to the Bluebell.
It was realised only after its overhaul how useful an engine it was, having
remained out of use for many years. "Normandy" can be seen working hard on the
'Monday Shunts' and on the current extension of the line northwards beyond
Kingscote. Not suited to high speed, and is only rarely to be found on passenger
trains.
